What are the minimum qualifications for teaching jobs?
All you need is a Bachelor’s degree (in any discipline) from an accredited university. You also need a 100-hour TEFL certificate for Hong Kong and a 120-hour TEFL certificate for China. Specific requirements can vary between different locations, but a large amount of our positions only require these basics. China typically has more of a demanding criterion, as some centres require a minimum of 2 years full-time post-graduate work experience.
How likely am I to find a job?
If you meet the minimum requirements and you are aged between 21 – 40 years old, you have a great chance of finding a suitable placement.
Do you offer free flights to my destination?
You will need to cover your flight cost initially, however, some employers do offer a flight reimbursement at the end of your 12-month contract.
Is there a big difference between living and working in Hong Kong, China and Macau?
Yes. China is the most densely inhabited country on Earth. It’s also one of the largest countries. This means that lifestyles vary greatly from province to province, and city to city. Many people who travel or work in China consider it to be the cultural experience of a lifetime. It’s nearly impossible to ever run out of great places to see and local cuisines to try. The relatively low level of English in the general population means that teachers will often meet students with absolutely no understanding of the language, and within a year or two the student is confident and skilled in his or her use of English.
Hong Kong, on the other hand, is perhaps one of the busiest cities in the world. The extreme population density means that Hong Kong is busy, exciting, cosmopolitan, and vibrant 24/7. Hong Kong has a large expat community and caters to everyone from all walks of life. It is not uncommon for people to go to Hong Kong for temporary travel or work and then end up staying for years longer than their original intended stay. Students in Hong Kong have typically been exposed to English in some capacity, but are always driven to learn more and more in order to keep up with the increasing use of the language throughout the city.
Macau is a city that encompasses Portuguese influenced Chinese culture. It is a small city offering big city conveniences. This means people living and working in metropolitan Macau benefit from convenient access to an array of entertainment, both eclectic and Macanese cuisine while appreciating the quaint, historic side of the city within short travelling distances. Students in Macau schools incorporate academic classes with English as a medium of instruction and usually have a very basic understanding of the language. After school, they are encouraged to attend extra curricula classes to build on this foundation.

Is there a maximum age for getting a job?

Do I have to create my own lesson plans and curriculum for my students?
